| This Series 1 LHD 3.8 OTS roadster was built on 17th January 1963 and was sold in New York USA to its first owner Corinne Breckham from Rochester, New York.
The car was purchased by the Dutchman Maarten Bubbart , the managing director of Upper Classics Ltd in New Zealand in 2000(Upper Classics is an internationally known award winning Jaguar and classic car restorer) as a project and underwent a ground up restoration to concours level between 2001 and 2002. Photographic evidence illustrates the car being taken back to bare metal with complete mechanical overhaul of engine and all mechanicals including suspension and then reprayed to its current colour combination of black and tan interior. It is a matching numbers car(Heritage certificate supplied).
The car was subsequently shipped to the Netherlands in 2003 where it graced the cover of the Dutch classic car magazine Het Automobiel Kalssieker Magazine along with a 7 page article within the magazine about the car and the e-type in general. This car was also showcased on the Upper Classics car stand in Essen at the Techno Classica in 2007. I purchased the car in June 2008 through Smiths-Veglia, the classic car dealer just outside Amsterdam, Holland and brought it to the UK. Following its arriveal the car was vetted and inspected here in the UK by JD Classics and CMC Ltd(Both top restorers of Jaguars) both of whom have confirmed the excellent quality of the restoration.
The car has done only 1000 miles since its restoration in 2002 and combined with the fact that the car has been housed in a dehumified /temperature controlled environment since then, the finish is still in immaculate condition and beyond reproach. The paintwork is near flawless with the shutlines exemplary, and all chrome fittings and rubbers are still in perfect condition. The car also benefits from slightly wider wheels and tyres to improve the aesthetic balance.
Over £25k was spent in 2009 at CMC(Classic Motor Cars-UK) Ltd and Etype Fabs to update and upgrade mechanicals sympathetically(all invoices/correspondence available) to improve reliability and driveability which among many others are:
Etype Fabs 5 speed syncro transmission
Etype Fabs front subframes
Cylinder head rebuild
Aluminium radiator and Kenlow cooling fan
High torque starter
Electronic ignition
All ignition leads
Alternator(Dynalite within dynamo casing retaining period look)
Quartz halogen light bulbs
Uprated roll bars and shock absorbers and torsion bars
Uprated brake calipers
New Coil
New SU Fuel pump
Steering rack bushes
Inertia reel seatbelts
As a result of all the above, the car drives and shifts beautifully and reliably and does not overheat. There is also an immobiliser which has been fitted by CMC ltd. The car is UK registered, comes with full tool kit and has an MOT until October 2012. The car needs to be viewed to be truly appreciated. It can be inspected in Central London where it is located. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
