| Finished in Sable (Sand) Metallic with Black Leather. The options list wasn’t exhaustive on the Citroen Masarati SM, but the list of standard equipment was! The front seats are beautifully sculptured and have an amazing amount of adjustment, there is of course the hydraulically powered self-leveling suspension and 4 disc braking system, power assisted and self-centering steering, rain sensitive windscreen wipers, 2.7 litre injected Masarati V6 engine, 5 speed manual gearbox and electric windows. This car is fitted with a modern CAT2 Immobiliser system. The structure of this Citroen SM is in very good condition. With the car up on the ramps we haven’t been able to find any structural rust either in the chassis or sills. At some point during the last 40 years the car does seem to have had a repaint, we can tell this by measuring the thickness of paint on the body with a paint depth gauge, but it has been done to a very high standard and you need to go to these forensic levels to tell. The paint finish is very good. The Sable metallic is of a consistent colour all over the body and it has deep lacquer finish. There are few blemishes to report; some minor bubbling around the air vent in the bonnet, a small blister on the rear tail gate and a few little chips on the door edges but otherwise the bodywork is free from dents, scraps and age related damage. As with the DS the brightwork is all stainless steel. It has polished up very well and does not suffer in the same way as chrome with pitting and tarnishing. In all the SM presents as in the photographs – a simply wonderful car! The SM is fresh from a major engine overhaul, suspension check over brake service at Andrew Brodie Engineering. The bill for this work came to £6,000 and has left the car in fantastic mechanical condition. The Masarati V6 is one of the first supplied with electronic fuel injection instead of the carb set up that the car was originally launched with and as such pumps out an extra 8 BHP. It fires from cold easily with no worrying blue smoke and soon warms through and drops its idle. The engines are complicated units, but regally serviced and with a few precautions have a reputation for covering huge mileage. The 5 speed manual gearbox is a joy to use. It has a Ferrari style gate which makes a satisfying clink as you change gear. The clutch is relatively light and there is no slip even under hard acceleration. This car was originally supplied in France and there is a huge amount of history from its time there. Since its registration in the UK earlier this year it has had a massive open cheque book service at Andrew Brodie (SM Specialists) as well as new tyres, work on the electrics and is presented in fantastic condition. It has to be one of the best examples available at the moment. The car is now MOT'd and registered in the UK For a full description and over 25 high resolution photographs please visit our website: http://www.eclecticcars.co.uk *** Eclectic Cars workshop and detailing bay are now open to service, detail, wax-oyl and protect your classic car call us on 01869 351883 for more details ***
