1950 Bentley 4 Litre Mk. VI Drophead Coupe by Park Ward
Chassis number B425FU, Engine no. B462F
Two Tone Grey with Grey Leather

This rare and desirable `long wing`, coach built Drophead Coupe by Park Ward was delivered new via Jack Barclay to a Mr. Vaughn in September of 1950. This example was equipped at the factory with the rare power operated windows option. The Park Ward Mk. VI are known for there elegant and extensive interior wood trim, and beautiful fender lines. This car is best described as a well cared for example that has been maintained as necessary throughout its life, including a repaint in 1993, but never totally restored.

Having found its way to North America by 1977, this car was owned by Mr. Maxwell C. Rice who sold it to Mr. Denny Burnstein in 1982. Mr. Burnstein proved to be this cars long term custodian owning it until late 2007. Much mechanical work was done under Burnstein`s ownership including brake and carburetor overhauls, and replacement of the rear axel bearings in 2003. A very comprehensive service was performed in 2000, and at that time the compression was checked to confirm the motor was in good health (readings were 110/105/100/110/115/120 lbs from front to rear). In 1993 the car was repainted in its entirety in this attractive and very fitting two tone non-metallic grey. In 1996 the interior, which retains much or all of its original leather, was carefully restored with preservation in mind. This work included re-dying the leather to its current matching grey color scheme.

Cosmetically, this example is best described as nice driver or casual show car. The paint work is of high quality, while other aspects of the car display a comfortable patina. The body is straight and appears very solid with good gaps and panel match. The paint is virtually free of use flaws, but is showing minor aging in selected areas. The chrome is very likely original and in outstanding condition for a 58 year old car. There are no areas of significant pitting or weathering, just light hazing throughout. The convertible top has been replaced with high quality black canvas material, has a fresh appearance, and fits well.

The interior is in very nice condition for the car`s age. The dash and door wood has been refinished and is generally very good. The front and rear seats upholstery, most likely original, is quite tender, but makes a strong impression. The carpets were replaced in 1996 and are in very good order. The instruments and switches appear to be original and are very tidy.

The engine bay of this example is representative of a well cared for, unrestoed car.

With this example comes the original manual, copies of the built sheets, records for ownership, and mechanical and cosmetic work performed back to 1977 (which includes a concours judging sheet showing 95 points- although no date is shown), the spare tire, and most tools.
