Let us start by saying we are so happy a car such as this exists. It is the perfect showcase of form and function, a car that could have so easily been cast aside for being too ambitious or costly, and yet, this small but mightily determined company based in a sleepy town decided to create their very first supercar, and boy was it a good one.
The Morgan Aero 8 started life way back in the year 2000, officially the first new Morgan-designed car since 1964, it would become Morgan’s first, and only supercar. This wasn’t to be some mystical dream of releasing a car and expecting it to knock the 911 off the top of the sales chart, as Morgan knew they had to put the work in when it came to development. And so, the Aero 8 was put through a huge development programme to ensure it was not only sleek in looks, but a seriously impressive car to drive, too.
Since 2000, and perhaps unbeknownst to many, there have been five different series of the Aero 8, bringing us right up to date with this fine example. Powered by a BMW-sourced 4.8-litre V-8 engine, good for a mighty 367bhp, the Aero 8 is certainly a car that invites you to experience its unique flavour of speed. That glorious sounding engine, paired with a bonded aluminium chassis that gives the car a curb weight of just 1,180kg, allows the Aero 8 to rocket to 62mph in a staggering 4.5 seconds from a standstill – enough to make even the most established supercar brands raise an eyebrow.
Even just the way it looks is enough to make you want to show it off, and yet, for whatever reason, this metallic blue over cream example has never been driven by the current vendor. The 104 miles on the clock have been racked up only by Morgan themselves. This unusual situation allows for the lucky bidder to experience what is essentially a brand-new Morgan, and one that is regarded as their greatest creation.
