Four years after the launch of the 550 Maranello, Ferrari honoured its long-term partner design Pininfarina to mark the carrozzeria’s 70th anniversary. The 550 Barchetta Pininfarina was duly unveiled at the 2000 Paris Motor Show. Sharing its drivetrain with the stylish coupé 550 Maranello, the limited-edition model was a true barchetta, with no permanent convertible top provided. A cloth soft-top was supplied by the factory, but only to be used below 110 km/h, in order to protect the cabin from the elements.

Just 448 examples of the 550 Barchetta Pininfarina would leave the Maranello factory, each equipped with a 5.5-litre V-12 matched to a six-speed manual gearbox. The open-topped car sacrificed a modicum of speed compared to its coupé counterpart, yet still clocked an impressive 0 to 100 km/h time of 4.4 seconds and a top speed of 300 km/h.

The example offered here, numbered 220 out of the 448 made, is finished in Rosso Corsa over a black and red leather interior. The 550 Barchetta Pininfarina joined The Aurora Collection in August 2001, delivered new to the consigning owner via Autoropa, the official Ferrari dealer in Arlöv, Sweden. During his ownership, the seller has covered just 901 kilometres in the car, which is accompanied by a pair of factory helmets, a luggage set, Owner’s Manual, and toolkit. The chance to own such a low-mileage 550 Barchetta Pininfarina is unlikely to come around again soon.
