When daydreaming about what type of vehicles police used on this side of the pond in the late 1960s and early 1970s (and who doesn't?) the mind's eye usually conjures up an array of powerful, full-sized iron, think Chevrolet Biscayne or aptly named Plymouth Fury. These police cars were built to chase down speeders, apprehend multiple individuals at a time, and if required, intimidate based on brash styling, sound, and sheer size.

Judging by the style and overall dimension of this Mini Cooper S Mk II Police Car it turns out the British Liverpool Police Force had a completely different set of priorities! Universally praised for its smart packaging, agility, and sprightliness, the original Mini, in all of its various guises, would, at a deeper look, make quite the suitable British police car. Navigating narrower streets with uprated 'S' power, economy, and ease of use were all of high concern for constables patrolling North West England in 1970. As part of an annual purchase of 27 Mini Cooper S, this highly intriguing Mk II is said to have been used for just a single year by the Liverpool Constabulary before completing its service time. Less is known of its time after leaving official use, however, it then likely was sold, entering private British ownership.

More recently, and while still in England, this police car received a complete restoration before being sold to the consignor in 2019. Records on file indicate that north of 30,000 GBP was spent to return this example, in the original color of Glacier White to the stellar condition it is presented in today. Consigned from the collection of a true Mini connoisseur, this rare variant can be enjoyed as either a police car or as an undercover street car. Expect heads to turn no matter how it is outfitted.
