The company is led by Werner Roeschlau who, together with his son and a skilled team of craftsmen, has been producing parts for top-end turntables for many years now.
Using both millimetre-perfect modern CNC machines and classic (“analogue”, as the company puts it) custom lathes and drill presses, AMG has now made its very own turntable, the Viella12.
‘V12’ for short.
The V12 has a CNC-machined housing made from 25mm, aircraft-grade aluminium. The stainless steel sub-platter interfaces with an 11kg platter powered by a Lorenzi, 2-pulse, low-speed brushless, precision 24v DC motor.
As with a hand-made engine from Affalterbach, each component is carefully chosen with no compromise made on quality. It has a dual-pivot-design bearing, the more common gimballed bearing replaced by a vertical bearing, similar in principle to those used in the rotor heads of helicopters.
A built-in spirit level ensures perfect balance and a stainless steel, weighted and polished drive-belt pulley drives the platter via a precision-made rubber belt.
Unlike the 6.3-litre V8 in the SLS AMG, though, it won’t turn at 6,800rpm. Just three speeds are available: the classic 33.3, 45 and 78rpm
