The Volvo P1800 turned out to be a very successful model for Volvo. When sales started to decline, Volvo introduced the P1800 ES, a 'shooting break' version of the Volvo P1800 Coupé. The extra space created a very practical car and attracted a completely new buyer audience.
The striking glass rear window that served as a trunk lid was later reused in the Volvo 480 and C30. The Volvo P1800 was especially popular in the United States. Our car has a special story.
Our Volvo, like most of them, was not delivered in the United States. Mr. Pratt ordered the car new on July 13, 1972 in Brussels, but with a U.S.A. specification.
The observant viewer has of course long seen that this is a U.S.A. specification, Mr. Pratt was living and working in Brussels at the time of the order and would then have the car shipped to the United States. Unfortunately it never got to that point, Mr. Pratt had to return to the United States sooner than expected and never took the car.
Before it was registered, the car was sold to Niham in The Hague and sold in the Netherlands to the first owner, who owned the car until 1997, after which the 2nd and last owner bought the car. So we can certainly speak of a 'long term ownership' Volvo P1800 ES with only 2 owners.
The car has always been very neatly maintained, and is even perfectly stamped up to 86,000 miles in the maintenance booklet at Volvo The Hague. Of course, maintenance was also carried out after the 86,000 miles, but this was done in-house by the previous owner. The car comes with the necessary documentation, such as the original purchase invoice and, as mentioned earlier, the service and instruction booklets are present.
The powerful B20 engine is nice and smooth and the 4-speed manual transmission with overdrive shifts wonderfully and works perfectly. This Volvo P1800 drives as you would expect from a P1800, solid and comfortable with the wonderful classic feeling due to the old instruments in the dashboard.
The Volvo has been restored in the past, and this is still reflected in the overall condition of the car, the fits are very nice and the seams fit nicely.
If, like the previous owner, you plan to drive many beautiful kilometers in this P1800 ES, it will be ready for you in Brummen.
