To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION at RM Sothebys' The Tegernsee Auction event, 27 July 2024.

  • One of just 70 examples of the sold out RUF SCR
  • A bespoke project by world-renowned RUF to create a pure and lightweight driver’s car
  • Chassis number 02; the first production SCR constructed after the prototype
  • Powered by a naturally aspirated, water-cooled, 4-litre flat-six rated at 510 PS
  • Finished in Light Green over a custom brown deerskin interior
  • Unique specification includes intricate embroidery, painted brake callipers, front axle lifter; accompanied by a spare set of lightweight wheels presented in matte black
  • Single ownership from new; odometer displays fewer than 11,000 kilometres

While RUF Automobiles made its name enhancing Porsche bodies in white, the SCR is truly the company’s own platform from the ground up. Presented at the 2018 Geneva International Motor Show, the model clearly features retro styling cues inspired by air-cooled 911s yet a state-of-the-art carbon fibre monocoque nestles beneath the ultra-lightweight panels that were shaped by CFD. Behind the rear axle lies a 4-litre, water-cooled, Mezger-derived alloy flat-six that breathes through intakes hidden beneath the rear side windows. Rated at 510 PS, the engine powers the 1,250-kilogram machine to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and onto a 320 km/h top speed.

Those performance figures are undeniably impressive. However, the SCR was conceived first and foremost to be a pure and therefore compelling driver’s car. The transmission is a six-speed manual from ZF, the brakes carbon ceramic, and specialist KW supplies the V5 coilover suspension. Given the recipe, the model unsurprisingly earned critical acclaim from the chosen few members of the motoring press given time behind the three-spoke sports steering wheel. The SCR was recognised for its exquisite level of engineering and craftsmanship, lithe and engaging handling, and sonorous powertrain.

The car sampled by the media was the prototype. Offered here is the chassis that followed immediately after, the first customer SCR from the limited run of 70 examples. Given how early it came into the project, an inspection report claims that approximately 4,900 kilometres of the 11,000 total at the time of cataloguing were owed to extended testing having been carried out by RUF.

Consigned to auction by its first private owner, this SCR was first registered in Germany in October 2022 and features remarkable details throughout. The exterior is finished in Light Green, while the interior was predominantly specified in brown deerskin that conceals the integrated roll cage. It was requested for the headrests of the folding carbon fibre bucket seats to be embroidered with the RUF logo, a mountain scene, stag’s head, and the outline of the state of Bavaria. The colour of the thread matches the exterior hue, as do the brake callipers. A variable exhaust system and a front axle hydraulic lifter were fitted, meanwhile the car is accompanied by a spare set of wheels painted matte black, a lightweight battery, fire extinguisher, and its original books.

This example, which benefits from an October 2023 service by RUF, marks the first time that an SCR has been publicly offered for sale. Given the incredibly exclusive build numbers of this model, which have all been spoken for, similar opportunities to acquire such a pure driver’s car will forever be hard to come by. As such, it would make for a truly spectacular addition to any collection.
