Beschreibung

The large and stately saloon with its internal code W100 (normally whispered by those in the know) was powered by a 6.3 litre V8 and 250 hp, coupled to an automatic gearbox. Mercedes conclusively had demonstrated its engineering prowess to the world. It was in its day certainly one of the most exclusive luxury automobiles available and was priced on the same level as a Rolls Royce or Bentley. 2’190 examples were built with the shorter wheelbase and this 600 left the works in Stuttgart on the 25th of June 1970 heading for Rome. Destined to be used in the sunny South the car was painted in silver metallic and the interior covered in grey velour. Most probably in its early years already, the luxury saloon was imported into Switzerland and registered locally. In November 1984, the 600, with then 143’258 kilometres on the clock, was taken by the family of the last owner. In 1995, around 20’000 kilometres later, the car was handed over to Mercedes-Benz classic centre in Fellbach in order to have a major overhaul performed. The coachwork was restored and repainted in the current black (DB 040). The interior was restored as well and recovered in tan leather (DB 8006). The final bill of 187’000 DM also included several mechanical tasks. The limousine was then often used and always well maintained as can be seen in all the maintenance receipts available. Towards the end of 2006, beginning 2007, around 19’000 kilometres ago the car was taken back to the Mercedes-Benz classic centre where the engine and steering system were overhauled and the automatic gearbox including the drive shaft replaced. At the same time an air conditioning system was retrofitted together with a modern Becker Mexico radio with a navigation system. All this resulted in a final bill of around €100’000. In 2015 the 600 was brought to Fellbach once more, where, for €32’000, it received a new rear axle. In April 2020 the car was shod with new tyres and in September 2022, around 2’000 kilometres ago, the hydraulic pump and the hydraulic pressure accumulator were replaced. Today the stunning saloon presents itself in extraordinary condition and will be handed over to a new owner with countless receipts for far more than 400’000 (!) Swiss francs and the last veteran MOT completed in May 2017. For a Swiss buyer the MOT will be renewed again.
