Description

1989 Pikes Peak Quattro Titanium MTB
What a nice still life. We’ve got a Honda 80ccm racer, the iconic “HB Männchen” and a Pikes Peak MTB from 1989, made of finest titanium - only the Audi S1 is somehow missing
Walter Röhrl won the legendary Pikes Peak hill climb in the Rocky Mountains in 1987 in an Audi Quattro S1. The Quattro Board of Directors were so enthusiastic about this great success that they came up with something very special to celebrate Walter Röhrl's outstanding achievement. Fascinated by mountain bikes, they were looking for a special model that would present this victory worthily.
It wasn't until 1986 that the very first titanium mountain bike frame was welded. Soon after, the first companies such as Linskey Brothers in Tennesse, Merlin and Litespeed were founded, which specialized in the manufacture of titanium frames. Marin Bikes, located in Marin County, California, the birthplace of mountain bike culture, was founded in 1986. In 1988 they produced the first titanium frame, used in MTB races. The frame was designed by the multiple American champion Joe Murray. The first serial frames were manufactured by Linskey Brothers in Tennesse. The Marin Team Titanium was launched in mid-1988.
The German importer of Marin Bikes, Delta Sports in Nuremberg, has been commissioned by Quattro to order 150 of these exclusive MTBs. The frames have now been supplied by Litespeed. The frames were finished with Quattro Pikes Peak decals and were given a serial number of the edition.
The MTB is equipped with a complete Shimano Deore XT-II groupset with 3 x 7-speed index gears from 1989. It comes with a custom chromed bike stand and, if you wish, the nice decorative stuff in the background. Reach out to us, we’re looking forward hearing from you!
